Lean-to
Single slope against the house. The most common in Hutton.
The specialism
They sit at a pitch that holds water, grow things walls never do, and they’re often made of a plastic that scratches if you treat it like glass. That’s the work we built the round around.

Glass
Sealed units streak if you leave mineral water on them; they look new if you don’t. We dwell on the algae, rinse with pure water, and finish the bars you’d see from the armchair. Finials and cresting take extra time — we put that in the quote.
Polycarbonate
Bronze, opal, clear — once it’s scratched you live with a fog. Soft pads, no grit, no cheap brushes. Heavy green growth comes off with dwell time, not elbow grease. If a sheet is already gone, we’ll say so rather than pretend.

Lanterns & orangeries
Kitchen lanterns in Shenfield and orangeries off Brentwood’s bigger houses collect silt where the roof steps. We clear the valleys, wash the lantern, and stay off brittle plastic. If the lead needs a roofer, that’s a different number — we won’t quietly wash over it.
Types we see on the round

Single slope against the house. The most common in Hutton.

Faceted front, ridge and finial. Needs time on the hips.

Square or rectangular with a pitched roof.

Raised glass lantern on an extension. Specialist access.

Dwarf walls, lantern, more glass than a conservatory.

Opaque or bronze panels. Soft wash only — no grit.
On the day
We walk the roof line, check seals, valleys and how the water runs. If something needs a builder, we say so.
Algae and lichen get a dwell time. No rushing it off and scratching the sheet.
Water-fed poles and a spot-free rinse, including the frames, sills and the glass you can see from the sofa.
Lantern bars, finials, interior if you asked, and a final look from inside — that's the test.
